Striped Lesser-Thicktail Scorpion

A small scorpion under 5 cm with the tail extended. It ranges from yellow to orange with a dark marking down the back to dark brown and black with lighter legs and pincers. The tail usually has a darker last segment and a light tipped sting. The pincers are usually dark with light tips.

A South African endemic, it is found from St Francis in the Eastern Cape along the coast to Saldanha Bay and then inland into the Cederberg. One of the most commonly seen scorpions in the greater Cape Town region. It is found under rocks and debris or is seen active on warm nights.

The sting of this species may cause pain but is not medically important.
