Other Names: Brahminy Blind Snake, Blompotslang
Classification: HARMLESS
One of few successful invasive snakes that came in with the soil of ornamental flowers, hence the common name. It is an all-female (parthenogenetic) snake and females produce viable eggs without ever mating with a male.
Usually found in port cities like Durban and Cape Town or Beira. It feeds on termites, ants and their eggs as well as other small invertebrates. Females lay 2–6 minute eggs with hatchlings measuring a mere 4 cm – possibly the smallest snakes in the world. A harmless snake that poses no threat to humans.
