Jones’s Creeper

A medium sized scorpion up to 9 cm with the tail extended. This species is black, often appearing brown due to dirt. It can have yellow legs.

A medium sized scorpion up to 9 cm with the tail extended. This species is black, often appearing brown due to dirt. It can have yellow legs.

It is a burrowing species with large pincers and a small tail. It can be found under rocks, but also digs burrows in open grasslands and savannah. It is active at night. It is known from the eastern side of South Africa through KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Limpopo, also entering eSwatini and southern Mozambique.

It may be confused with some of the other Creeper Scorpions. The sting of this species may cause pain but is not medically important.
