A large, secretive snake that spends much of its life underground, emerging on warm summer nights. It feeds on frogs, rodents and snakes including venomous ones.

The File Snake appears to be immune to the venom of other snakes.

It has a rough, triangular body with a white line down the centre of the back and with pink skin visible between the scales.

The File Snake is inoffensive and rarely attempts to bite, even if handled but will emit a foul-smelling liquid from the cloaca.
