The Eastern Tiger Snake is an attractive nocturnal snake that averages 50-70 cm in length. It is a good climber and is often found in the rafters of buildings where it hunts for geckos and bats. It also feeds on fledgling birds and rodents. When confronted, it will raise the front third of its body off the ground, flattening its head and forming an s-shape before lunging forward in mock strikes. It may also hiss.

This snake is often seen crossing roads at night and many are killed by passing vehicles. Its venom is mild and may cause light swelling if the snake is allowed to chew.
