Schinz’s Beaked Blind Snake

A smallish blind snake averaging 15–20 cm with a maximum length of 29 cm. It inhabits dry savanna, karoo scrub and semi-desert regions of the north-western Northern Cape, Namibia and western Botswana.

A smallish blind snake averaging 15–20 cm with a maximum length of 29 cm. It inhabits dry savanna, karoo scrub and semi-desert regions of the north-western Northern Cape, Namibia and western Botswana.

It spends much of its life underground but is often found on roads at night when it will wriggle furiously. This snake feeds on invertebrates and little is known about its biology.

Individuals are usually pinkish above, usually with darker spots or blotches. It is harmless and poses no threat to humans.
